On September 7, 2017, the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction released results from the North Carolina Public Schools Accountability Model.
Central Middle School exceeded expected growth and demonstrated a 12.2% increase to 66.9% in Grade Level Proficiency.
As a district, Whiteville City Schools ranked in the top 25 of all 115 public school districts in reading and math at grade levels 3-8. In grades 3-8 math, WCS was 21st in the state with a composite score of 61.4 %. The State of North Average was 55.4%. In grades 3-8 reading, the district was reported to achieve an overall score of 62.5%, which exceeded the state average by 5% (57.5%).
