Principal's Corner

Greetings,

As we approach the End of Grade, End of Course Tests, CTE Exams, as well as the NC Final Exams, please encourage all students to do their best. It is essential that all students put forth their best effort so they can exemplify what they have learned throughout the school year. Our teachers have been diligent and have spent countless hours preparing all students for their EOG Tests and Exams. All students are fully prepared to perform their best. Our goal is that all of our students will reach grade level proficiency and/or college and career readiness on all of their EOG Tests and Exams.

Thank you for supporting our efforts as we continue to educate the whole child.

Hornets are on the Horizon!

In the month of May, during the Optimist Club meeting, Mr. Bruce Ketcham was honored as Central Middle School's 2017 Optimist Achievement in Education Award.

The Whiteville Optimist Club instituted the J. B. Hickman Memorial Achievement in Education Award in 1992 to recognize an educator who has exemplified the “Optimist Creed” and has been a “Friend of Youth” while making a contribution toward excellence in education.  The award is given in memory of J. B. Hickman who was a charter member, past-president, and long-time secretary-treasurer of the Whiteville Optimist Club. Annually, the Optimist Club asks the four principals in the Whiteville City School System to nominate one teacher from each of their respective schools this award and present to the selection committee a statement describing the reasons this teacher was nominated (below):

Mr. Ketcham is always diligent, hard-working, organized, helpful to new teachers and has a passion for teaching and student learning. Mr. Ketcham always exhibits and models the utmost professionalism. He is a creative thinker, and is always reflecting upon the best instructional strategies and practices to not only reach his students, but the entire student body. Mr. Ketcham is a valued School Improvement Team member, and has proactively began a new Tech(nology) Team this year for any staff members who would like to participate. He sees the value in infusing the best technological instructional practices by enhancing the school and the district, through the infusion of technology in our instructional methods. Mr. Ketcham also does what I refer to as the intangibles, such as keeping the Central Middle School website updated and helping as a score keeper, announcer and/or in any capacity at athletic events.

Please congratulate Mr. Ketcham on this accomplishment. Also, wish him luck in the interview process for Whiteville City Schools District Teacher of the Year.
